Are you looking for a way you can help a child? Become a CASA Volunteer.

CASA volunteers are trained members of the community who advocate for abused and neglected children in family court. CASA volunteers ensure that children do not fall through the cracks of an overburdened system. A volunteer follows a child’s cases as it moves through the family court system. The volunteer researches the case, learning everything they can about the child’s special situation. The CASA volunteer then writes thorough reports to the judge on the child’s situation and what’s best for the child’s future.

Next Training Class begins

CASA for the Highland Lakes Area serves 100% of the children in state care, who have been

removed from their homes because of abuse or neglect, in Blanco, Burnet, Lampasas, Llano

and San Saba counties. By becoming a CASA volunteer to advocate for these children,

you can make two lives better—one of them is yours.

CASA is the only volunteer organization that empowers everyday citizens as officers of the court.  In an overburdened social

welfare system, abused and neglected children often slip through the cracks among hundreds of current cases.

CASA volunteers change that.  Appointed by judges, CASA volunteers handle a case/cases and commit to staying on the case until the child is placed in a safe, permanent home.  While others may come and go, CASA volunteers provide that one constant that children need in order

to thrive.  CASA volunteers work with children, their families, the courts and the child welfare system to help find the children safe,

permanent homes as quickly as possible.

What does it take to become a CASA Volunteer?

  •  Every volunteer passes a background check and participates in a 30-hour training course including topics on the dynamics of child abuse and Neglect, Advocate Responsibilities, Family Violence, Cultural Competence, Permanency Planning, Accessing Services, and Court Proceedings.

  • After successfully completing the training, the volunteer is assigned his/her first case.  A volunteer's average time is approximately 10 hours per month.

  • Volunteer advocates are asked to dedicate themselves to a case until it is closed.  The average case lasts about a year.

  • Advocates are supervised every step of the way and always have resources readily available.

Attendance at all classes is required. Please confirm your attendance in

a return email or call me at the number listed below.
